The Joyce Ivy Foundation and Minds Matter Detroit Announce First Annual Joyce Ivy College Admissions Workshop

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN, September 24, 2018 — The Joyce Ivy Foundation, in partnership with Minds Matter Detroit, is proud to announce registration for the first annual Joyce Ivy College Admissions Workshop on Saturday, October 27 at the University of Detroit Mercy. Participation will be free of charge for female high school sophomores and juniors due to the support of the Joyce Ivy Foundation, Minds Matter Detroit, and their donors. Advance registration is required.

Building on the success of the spring Joyce Ivy College Admissions Symposium (JCAS), the new fall program will serve as as preparatory session for students who are beginning to think about their college options. The half day (8:30 am – 12:30 pm) event will feature interactive college admissions and financial aid workshops designed for talented female high school sophomores, juniors, and their families to learn more about admission to highly selective colleges and the process of applying for financial aid.

“The Joyce Ivy Leadership Team conceptualized JCAW as a way to provide students with relevant admissions information earlier in their high school careers,” said Allison Jegla, Vice President for Program Development at the Joyce Ivy Foundation. “Armed with this knowledge, students can better understand their options and make informed choices throughout the process.”

JCAW will feature both full-group presentations and interactive workshop sessions. Each component will be led by admissions representatives from some of the country’s most selective colleges and universities, including Dartmouth College, Wellesley College, and Johns Hopkins University.

“We are delighted to offer this high impact event for young women in the metro Detroit area,” said Brittany Knight, Executive Director of the Joyce Ivy Foundation. “By expanding our programming to Detroit, we hope to impact a new population of motivated students and pair them with exciting educational opportunities.”

“Partnering with Joyce Ivy and Detroit Mercy to bring this workshop to Detroit is a natural fit for Minds Matter,” remarked Patrick W. Martinez, President of Minds Matter Detroit. “Minds Matter focuses on helping Detroit high school students realize their college dreams, so this event is right in line with that goal. We look forward to a great event and helping the female students in the Detroit area.”

Female high school sophomores and juniors interested in attending the program on Saturday, October 27, may register on the JCAW page of the Joyce Ivy Foundation website beginning on September 19, 2018. Capacity is limited, and early registration is encouraged. With space limitations in mind, students are asked to select a single guardian to join them.
